Just installed AVG Free 8. The command line AV exe has apparently changed, but I can't figure out how to configure it. Currently using: Path: C:\Program Files\AVG8\avgscanx.exe Arguments: /heur /arc /scan="%1" With AVG7.5 an AVG scan window would popup after each download, do its thing and disappear. Using the above, nothing seems to happen, with the exception of a quick flash of a command window. Any help would be great. Thanks, Zack

hi,
Has anyone got it to work? I'm using FF3 (3.0.1), AVG8 Free (8.0.169) and Download statusbar 0.9.3.6.
I've tried the batch file workaround, as well as pointing to avgscanx.exe with arguments /scan=%1 /HEUR /ARC
thanks.

Hi there, I tried this out, and it works with the following /arc /heur /scan=%1 I tested that it worked by downloading an EICAR test file from www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htmPopped up the AVG warning as it should. This was done with FF3, Downloadstatus Bar 0.9.6.3 and AVG 8 Hope this helps! Mark.

i've tried all the various combinations but i don't seem to be getting the results.
i'm using avg 8.5.287 (avg free not pro), firefox 3.0.10 and download statusbar 0.9.6.4.
i'm currently using these settings.
manually scan completed downloads (checked. is this right? it seems contrary since i want it to scan automatically) don't scan these file types (nothing, i want it to scan everything) anti-virus program location: C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgscanx.exe arguments: /scan=%1 /heur /arc /clean (i have also tried simply /scan=%1 and /scan=%1 /clean)
my default download location is the desktop, but i do download into folders as well.
when i change program location or put an incorrect file, a message pops up to say that the av program isn't found, so i do know it's trying to scan.
but when i have the above command line scanner, i don't actually see any popups telling me anything has been scanned. i checked the logs of avg within the avg program but nothing shows up as having been scanned.
i have been continually downloading the eicar test files (the com, txt and two zip files) but nothing gets detected through the download statusbar scan.
i would appreciate if anyone can offer suggestions on how to get the scanner working.

just to clarify, "when i change program location or put an incorrect file, a message pops up to say that the av program isn't found, so i do know it's trying to scan". what i mean is, when i change the file name on purpose (from avgscanx.exe to avgscanx), it won't work. i did this to test if download statusbar was actually trying to utilize the scanner - which of course, it is as evidenced by the popup message i get saying it can't find a scanner. i use avgscanx.exe because i run windows 32-bit xp pro. i've tried all the various combinations but i don't seem to be getting the results. i'm using avg 8.5.287 (avg free not pro), firefox 3.0.10 and download statusbar 0.9.6.4. i'm currently using these settings. manually scan completed downloads (checked. is this right? it seems contrary since i want it to scan automatically) don't scan these file types (nothing, i want it to scan everything) anti-virus program location: C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgscanx.exe arguments: /scan=%1 /heur /arc /clean (i have also tried simply /scan=%1 and /scan=%1 /clean) my default download location is the desktop, but i do download into folders as well. when i change program location or put an incorrect file, a message pops up to say that the av program isn't found, so i do know it's trying to scan. but when i have the above command line scanner, i don't actually see any popups telling me anything has been scanned. i checked the logs of avg within the avg program but nothing shows up as having been scanned. i have been continually downloading the eicar test files (the com, txt and two zip files) but nothing gets detected through the download statusbar scan. i would appreciate if anyone can offer suggestions on how to get the scanner working. -spiff

those who are saying that they tested with eicar... and that things work... are actually somewhat mistaken...
yes, avg catches it... but IT'S THE RESIDENT SHIELD doing so... not the command line scanner we're trying to invoke from DLSB...
so, since the virals are being caught, regardless... does it really matter, until DLSB is fixed?

OK, it scans when I use the /scan=1%. How do I use the /trash in combo with /scan=1% ?
Is is just /scan=1%/trash ?
