Also. AVG reports infections now. Instead of shooting the user a warning (I tried the /pup option) it just pops up at the bottom with a Infections: 0/0. if it is 0/1 that means that the file is infected. I do not automatically clean because I do not want my stuff deleted. AVG reports some keygens too. Etc. Let me know if you have problems. Thanks very much WebDawg for the bat file, it works great! The question I had, was if you could please expand on your above post. I've messed around, and cannot get the command line to report scan results immediately and visibly . I want to know what the results are even when there are no infections. Do you leave your AVG tray on? You mentioned some sort of popup bubble, and that leads me to think the result report is a tray related thing. Here's hoping to both your reply, and helpful answer. Thanks mate! ~Blah

Nearly Forgot... in regards to my above post.
You can simply add "pause" to the last line of the bat file (right click the file and click edit) to keep the command window open. Its ugly, but gives you time to read the results, then you can press any key to close.
I just wish I could get a fancy dancy popup bubble instead.

When I run the batch file I'm getting that 'avgscanx.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
If I run the bat file from the AVG program directory everything is fine. I'm using Download Scan 1.1 with Firefox 2.0.0.14

I found an alternate solution in AVG's forum. Apparently, it works without the batch file if there's a space in front of the first switch: i.e., instead of "/scan=%1", make it " /scan=%1".
It seems to work for me; I tested it with the EICAR file and got a notice that my file was infected. (I haven't tried the /clean switch yet.)

Hi, I was also using a batch file to do scans with Download Statusbar using AVG8, similar to the method posted above, in Firefox 2, but now I am trying Firefox 3 rc 1 using the same batch file but now it doesn't work, nothing happens when the download is finished. I copied all the settings over exactly as they were and I'm using the same version of Download Statusbar. Has anyone got this to work in FF3? Thanks.

It doesn't work with FF3 rc 2 either. When using the batch file to launch AVG8, nothing happens, but in the task manager you can see that a cmd.exe process is running, although no window appears...

Still the same using download statusbar 0.9.6.3 and Firefox 3. Anyone got any ideas or know any alternative methods to autmoatically scan downloads with Firefox 3 & AVG free?

I'm on AVG8 / FF3 full release. My problem's not changed since I upgraded to AVG8 on FF2.whatever.
I've found if I use "/scan=%1" then nothing happens at all. When I configured AVG8, I noticed that their instructions use "%f" instead, so I went for "/scan=%f".
Lo and behold, little popups above the clock telling me my scan had been done.
No, wait: "Scanned 0/0". Checking the scan logs, I realised that AVG was being fired up, but that no file was being passed to it so it wasn't scanning anything.
That's where I'm at. Either no scanning at all, or AVG "working" but not getting anything to scan. I'd guess the DLS just needs a way of passing the file path as %f, not %1!

if you forget about the batch file and just call avgscanx from the download statusbar options, with the argument /scan=1%, AVG will scan the download, but it just won't report the results, so you have to look at the scan history to see the result. however if you put the /clean argument in it will automatically repair or remove any infected files, so you can just assume that if the file is still present in the download location when you look for it, then it must be ok, and if it has disappeared into the virus vault there was a problem with it. the /trash argument doesn't attempt to repair the file but just puts it in the virus vault. i am using some other arguments too which other people have mentioned. i think this method is acceptable as you can at least know the files have tested OK even if you don't get shown the scan result. this is with firefox 3 and AVG8.

actually it seems like it only works when you save the download in a location without spaces in the path name. putting quotes around the %1 doesn't seem to help.
