i urge the developer(s) of this add-on to make it open source so that someone who has the time can maintain it.
ffs, it's been over a year since there's been an update, and seeing how this is the only add-on of its kind (as far as i know) i consider it very rude on their behalf to keep it closed source and unmaintained.

Well I think it's rude for you to come here and tell me what I should do with my work. Sorry if I'm not doing enough free labor for your taste. I know there are issues with this add-on - I've freely admitted as much. But it works well enough that it is useful for a lot of people. Oh and guess what - the project has been open source from the very beginning. Making something open source isn't some magical fix. I have a solution if you are unhappy with the program. Please goto Tools - Add-ons - select Menu Editor, and press Uninstall.

Hi, Good work, Keep it with yourself but if u r denying others full fruits of ur labor u r bound to hear comments like this. I have been maintaining ur extension as well as conflicting DownThemAll -Without its context menu entries. I feel bad about that developer as he has tried his best to resolve the issue. Yours is a pretty important extension and if u sleep over and don't resolve the pending issues you r bound hear such comments.

While it's true that this is your software and you can do with it what you want Devon, you do have a responsibility towards its users. if you can't match up to that responsibility you should stop publishing this add-on on Firefox's add-ons website, and just keep it for yourself or publish it on your own website so that people that are happy with it as it is or that can modify its code themselves can download it from there.
but if you don't have the time, the resources, the will or whatever else to maintain this add-on you really should consider to stop publishing it on Firefox add-ons page, as should all add-on developers that can't handle the work. because of this over 20% of all add-ons are not compatible with the latest builds of firefox or work poorly, which is quite frustrating.

Here's a perspective: Devon J created this addon for himself. Therefore, his users only include one person... himself. The responsibility he has to his users (himself) is that he must update it regularly enough so that it continues to be useful. Otherwise they (he) will stop using it entirely, as users should do when a particular addon becomes less useful. Because he thought others might like it, he made it available in the place where the greatest number of people could access it, although this implied nothing other than availability of the addon. Like it or not, this is the case with 99.9% of the addons available through Mozilla's Firefox Addons site. It's unlikely that complaining to, or especially insulting, an author will encourage them to make any changes at all. Identifying a specific problem and asking for the author to take a look at it might be a bit more effective. Taking a look at the source code and even making a wild guess at the possible cause of the problem would probably be even more effective. For example, I might notice that Menu Editor reports that it is "Not compatible with ..." and ask the author if he could update the maxVersion value in install.rdf. Of course, insulting and complaining to someone you don't even know can be much more fun, and even therapeutic... especially if you don't plan to re-visit a particular forum. So, Devon, when are you going to get off your fat, lazy butt and fix the fracking maxVersion for MenuEditor. I'm sick of looking at this little red sign in my addons list. Oh... you're ugly and your mother dresses you funny, too. ... See... I feel much better ;D -- -- Ghodmode
