So, this was an interesting experiment. If I removed the add-ons menu option, would it really go? And if so, how to get it back? Is there a way other than clearing the profile to turn off the menu edits only (and not any of the other plugins installed)?

CTRL + SHIFT + s
should open the menu editor

ctrl + shift + s brings up script menu
ctrl + shift+ m brings up roxio support menu
please help with this issue.

@murph & Sariel : you could go to your Firefox/Thunderbird profile directory, and delete menuedit.rdf.
