Here is how to scan downloaded files with ClamWin. (An excellent freeware anti-virus program. http://www.clamwin.com) 1. Open up the options dialog. 2. Click on the "Virus Scan" tab 3. Enter the location of the ClamWin.exe file in the "Anti-Virus program location". Probably "C:\Program Files\ClamWin\bin\ClamWin.exe" 4. Enter "--mode=scanner --path=%1" into the arguments field. 5. Click apply. There, you are done. To test your settings, go to www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm and download the sample virus files there to make sure that ClamWin detects the viruses. (Beware, read the full disclaimer on the site)

Thanks, (so I take it you didn't need to hack the extension this time )

Somehow, this doesn't seem to work in FF 1.0.6. ClamWin is executed but it reports:
ERROR: Can't access file %1
Looks like "%1" is not substituted with the path to the downloaded file.

This currently won't work in Download Scan 1.0 or Download Statusbar 0.9.2. (But it will work in Download Statusbar 0.9.3) I will be updating Download Scan soon to include the improvements made in virus scan feature of Download Statusbar 0.9.3.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to wait for the Download Scan update then.

4. Enter "--mode=scanner --path=%1" into the arguments field. worked without quotation marks in the argument field, this extension works better than ClamWin Anti virus Glue for Firefox, since i can exclude files from being scanned

I just posted a ClamWin how-to in the download statusbar topic I didn't bother looking for a similar topic because i thought for sure nobody's heard of the Clam I'll leave it there though since it's in that extensions topic, unless you want to delete it Devon -- feel free. I'll also repeat here though that ClamWin isn't for noobs as it does not do background scanning (strictly on-demand), though that feature is scheduled to be implemented. It's also not only free, but open source as well (FOSS). Devon, may i also suggest either pinning a description for your extensions at the top of each topic, or creating a new forum for the descriptions? I was wondering what some of them do and had to go elsewhere for a description.

For everyone else, I'll just mention the difference in your instruction in the other forum: Additional argument: --close "If you don't want it to close automatically if a virus is not found, then remove "--close" (it will stay open regardless of this switch if a virus is found)." I think I may just make links that go back to the extension homepages on mozdev.org downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/

Hi, thank you for that nice tutorial, but the --close param only closes the scan window automatically, the ClamWin program window needs to be closed manually. Does anyone know a way to make this window close along with the scanning window, if no virus was found, automatically? I am using: - Download Statusbar 0.9.4.1 (startparams: --mode=scanner --path=%1 --close) - Firefox 1.5.0.5 I tried using the clamscan.exe with the following settings, which btw work fine if i try it directly in the windows commandline: C:\Program Files\ClamWin\bin>clamscan --move="C:\Program Files\ClamWin\Quarantine" --database="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\.clamwin\db" --log="C:\Program Files\ClamWin\log.txt" F:\Downloads\eicar.com Where the params are: --move does move the file to a quarantine folder, you can use --remove to the delete the file (but use carefully!) --database is the location of the ClamWin virus-database, the path cam be found in the ClamWin Settings Window under File Locations --log logs the scan-report to a specified file last parameter is the path to the file that needs to be scanned (which is a infected file that I obtained here, thanx to RedSolo for that: www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm PLEASE read the disclaimer on the site first!) Note: For more parameters to clamscan use clamscan --help in the windows commandline. HOWEVER, this does NOT work with Download Statusbar or Download Scan! A commandline window pops up an closes instantly, I am unable to see any errors. It's probably connected to the %1 var which should point to the downloaded file, but I cannot be sure about that. Would be nice if there is a solution to this.

I'm trying to get clamwin to remove the infected file but the --remove command doesn't work. All it does is show the scan log. My argument line is: --mode=scanner --path=%1 --remove --close

Never mind. ;D Changed a preference in clamwin and it removed it.

Got any idea of how to make this relative, in order for it to work with ClamWinPortable?
I've gotten it to work for now, but I want to make the location of ClamWinPortable relative, so that there aren't problems with the drive letter location.

Don't think there is anyway to do relative right now, sorry

Doesn't work anymore. What are the right arguments?
